Welcome to the 2nd level of the Tomorrowland Planet Center! This area is home to the new PeopleMover entrance, and a brand new dining experience (indoor/outdoor) called "Starry Sky". In addition, part of the building walls have been removed, creating new outdoor balcony space rather than all inside. Keep reading to learn more!
Starry Sky
Starry Sky is the brand new dining experience at DL's Tomorrowland. As this is a table service restaurant and projected to be very popular, a reservation is recommended.
Guests coming to dine at Starry Sky will first be greeted with the atmosphere of the restaurant right when they get upstairs. Like the first level, the area will be themed around space and futuristic technology, but with a steam punk essence. Coming up the escalators, guests are in a grand, open "hub" type area, with the PeopleMover entrance in front of them, but Starry Sky the other direction. Outside is the check-in for reservations, as well as couches and seats provided for waiting.
Indoor and outdoor seating is available, as well as booths and traditional tables. The occasional rainy day doesn't limit seating though, as a retractable awning is set up. In addition to the awning, the inside area has a retractable roof similar to various sports arenas. The roof, with a hand-painted galaxy mural, can open for special occasions.
Outside, guests that even don't have a reservation, are waiting, or are simply enjoying the upstairs part of Planet Center before the restaurant is open, can wander around the balcony looking out at the rest of Tomorrowland. At night, the balcony railings will glow bright and shine majestically being equipped with LED lights along them. Also, parts of the outside walls are lined with OLED lights, technology that allows you to basically run "sheets" of lighting along a surface to have it glow. The Planet Center building will look beautiful at night from the outside, and even more so from guests looking in at Starry Sky.
This restaurant is open for dinner and a character breakfast everyday (Breakfast- 7-9, Dinner- 4-10).
For the character breakfast, families with reservations can have early entry to the park to enjoy the most important meal of the day with Mickey and friends in their space suits! Available for breakfast are many traditional favorites, such as bacon, eggs, toast, fruit, french toast, and those famous Mickey-shaped waffles.
At dinner, new offerings are available. This restaurant has many traditional American foods for travelers, such as burgers, sandwiches, paninis, salads, and chicken (all prepared in different ways). However, for the more adventurous (This is space after all!), many less-common dishes will be served. Different fish, vegetable dishes, and meats such as pork, lamb, and brisket. A kids menu will have cheeseburgers, chicken fingers, small fish dishes, and pasta. For dessert, there will be simple-yet-wonderful ice cream and brownie dishes, but also some more fine options. There will be a chocolate lava cake, a sugared fruit plate, and chocolatey/fruity truffles.
On select nights, after the dinner rush, the dinner part of the restaurant will close, and Starry Sky will serve different deserts from their menu, as well as Chef's specials desserts, which guests can order and enjoy under the stars, planets, and much more as the retractable roof opens up.
As you can see, Starry Sky is a very beautiful and must-see dining experience, with great theming and greater food selections than the typical 6-item menu at Disney parks restaurants, this is a restaurant that you will for sure eat at on your next trip to the Disneyland resort!
PeopleMover
This building refurbishment brings back a fan-favorite classic attraction that sadly was removed from the park many years ago, the PeopleMover. This new version is quite different than its original however. It will make use of a new track, somewhat reconstructed with as much as possible salvaged, and also with a roof (like the WDW track has) so that the vehicles do not need a covering themselves. Because of this, the vehicles will also look much more like WDW's, except with a different color scheme to match the steam-punk theme of DL's Tomorrowland. Another big change- There are now multiple routes. When guests go to ride the Peoplemover, they may choose to travel through either Tomorrowland North or South. Each route is roughly 6 minutes. View the below map to see the different routes.
Also, you may notice in the map at the top of Level Two that two different paths cross each other, making it quite unusual. This is part of the two different route experiences. Guests can choose to ride through either path, North or South, and enter that line, creating the need for two different sides to enter. However, this rashes the inconvenience of having to exit one ride and get back in line to experience the other. As a solution, guests have the option of staying on the ride, as the vehicle will then cross over, and will go through the other route (Timing of vehicles movements are specified so that each path crosses the intersection seamlessly. In the event of the ride slowing down for handicap accessibility, both paths will stop together.). Lastly, each vehicle will be equipped with a light on it with two different colors. While guests may not realize that there's anything to it, the light's colors actually let Cast Members know how many times one party has gone around the ride to keep guests from abusing the "keep-riding" system.
Whichever path guests choose to ride though, they surely will have a great time touring Tomorrowland and different attractions such as Autopia, Space Mountain, Star Tours, and many more, as well as reliving nostalgic memories or creating new ones.
